Tuna Casserole

This recipe comes from my grandmother Myrna, with only a couple of minor modifications.

Ingredients Instructions

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • one onion, chopped
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cans tuna
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • one box frozen peas
  • four slices whole wheat bread, cut into cubes
  • 8 ounces grated cheese
  • two tomatoes, sliced

  1. Oven: 350
  2. Mix flour and olive oil in sauce pan.
  3. Add onion, and saute until onion is soft.
  4. Add milk, a little at a time, stirring contiuously.
  5. Add tuna, salt, pepper, basil.
  6. Cook until thickened.
  7. Add peas.
  8. Mix bread and cheese.
  9. Assemble casserole in a 13x8 baking dish in layers. Half of tuna mixture, then half of bread/cheese, then rest of tuna mixture, then tomatoes, then rest of bread/cheese.
  10. Bake 30 minutes at 350.
